Great Barrier Reef Foundation

Strong Peoples-Strong Country is an inclusive framework grounded in Traditional Owner perspectives and values. This framework monitors the health and condition of the Great Barrier Reef, highlighting the interconnections between the Reef's well-being and the quality of life for Traditional Owner communities. It reflects a holistic view encompassing social, cultural, health, economic, and environmental aspects, as well as the land and sea Country that Traditional Owners are culturally connected to and have a responsibility to care for.

With their Elders always in mind, Josh and Bronwyn feel a deep sense of responsibility as 'knowledge holders.' Their work in collecting and managing data, preserving cultural heritage, and fostering community engagement is critical in keeping the Yuwi people, their culture, and their beliefs strong. Through their roles as researchers, they are also creating employment pathways, building skills, and protecting Country for future generations.
