Harry Styles, Ed Sheeran and Snoop Dogg brought in an estimated $21.3 million into local businesses as international acts return to Melbourne, new NAB transaction data shows*.

Ed Sheeran performed in front of two record-breaking crowds at the MCG last week, while Snoop Dog was on stage at Rod Laver Arena. Together the artists helped bring in an estimated $13.6 million to the MCG precinct, an 18% increase in spend in the area on the week prior, and 83% up on the same dates in 2022.

Harry Styles, who played two packed-out shows at Marvel Stadium last month also contributed to city buzz, with his shows bringing in an estimated $7.7 million to the Victorian capital – a 14% increase in spend on the week prior.

NAB Executive for Business Metro, Julie Rynski, said businesses across the city who did it tough over the past few years with many shows being postponed or cancelled due to the pandemic are enjoying Melbourne being back in full swing.

"I think most Melburnians have been thrilled to see international acts return to the city - all events create activity, energy and a fantastic buzz for businesses across Melbourne," Ms Rynski said.

"Many businesses in our cities rely on entertainment and events to draw crowds into the city who then also spend at restaurants, bars and pubs – the halo effect is significant."

Mathew Everett, owner of Richmond pub, Corner Hotel said events in Melbourne's sporting precinct bring with them a massive spike in trade in the local area.

"When people head to the MCG or one of the other parks in the city, they don't just show up for the event itself. Many come into the city early and stay back later and make a night of it," Mr Everett said.

"This means dinner before a gig, or a drink after the game - the vibe is positive, international artists are back and everyone's excited to get out and see them again."
