Introducing Taste of Summer to Hobart’s waterfront

Hobart’s waterfront will be abuzz this festive season, with the new Taste of Tasmania-style event, Taste of Summer, taking over PW1 for the post-Christmas and New Year period.

Officially launched today at Hobart Brewing Co, Taste of Summer will be planned and delivered by private consortium Pinpoint Group.

First established in 1988, the Taste of Tasmania quickly became a key event on Tasmania’s social calendar, and now holds the title of Australia’s longest running food and wine festival.

Premier Peter Gutwein said Taste of Summer will run in a similar way to the Taste of Tasmania event in previous years, as a food and wine festival with a focus on showcasing Tasmanian produce and entertainment.

“Tasmania produces some of the best food and beverages in the world, and it’s fantastic to have so many Tassie producers in one place showcasing their goods,” Mr Gutwein said.

“The program will feature 84 stallholders with produce curated from various regions across the state. Importantly, the event will be operated in a COVID-safe way.”

Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events Sarah Courtney said the State Government is supporting the planning and delivery of the 2021 Taste of Summer through a contribution of $1.4 million.

“Getting out on the waterfront over the holiday period is an iconic part of Tasmania’s summer calendar, and the Taste of Summer will be a festival for Tasmanians to enjoy while also supporting our visitor economy,” Ms Courtney said.

Taste of Summer will run from December 28, 2021 to January 3, 2022 at Princes Wharf, Salamanca Place.
