Investing In Our Neighbourhood Houses For Future

Tasmanian Government

Madeleine Ogilvie, Minister for Community and Multicultural Affairs

The 2026-27 Tasmanian Budget will deliver almost $55 million to continue supporting our much-loved Neighbourhood Houses, that provide a place-based approach for the delivery of specialised programs and services.
Minister for Community and Multicultural Affairs, Madeleine Ogilvie, said the Neighbourhood House network provided important support for their communities at a time when Tasmanians are feeling increasing cost of living pressures.
"Tasmania's Neighbourhood Houses play an important role in the lives of Tasmanians and are very much the heart of our communities," Minister Ogilvie said.
"They are pillars of healthy, supportive and inclusive communities, and support Tasmanians with cost-of-living and social matters.
"The Budget will be a tough one - it recognises our nation, and the world, are facing turbulent times.
"It prioritises frontline services, while making the savings needed to return to a balanced budget sooner.
"The 2026-27 Budget will invest $46.7 million in 34 Neighbourhood Houses, as well as $6 million for the Neighbourhood Houses Capital Improvement Program and $1.98 million for the peak Neighbourhood Houses Tasmania Inc over the Forward Estimates.
"The Budget also includes funding for HATCH - the Health Action Team Central Highlands at Ouse – which will be recognised with House status and funding for the first time.
"This is a clear demonstration of our investment into delivering for Tasmania – into getting on with the job and building a strong economy and a caring economy.
"Houses support people to reach their potential, foster strong and supportive families, encourage safe, inclusive and resilient communities, and improve health and wellbeing.
"This will be a tough Budget, but one that sets Tasmania up for the future by tackling debt, keeping the economy strong, and delivering the services and infrastructure we need."
