IOM Expands Islamic Philanthropy Fund To Reach Migrants And Displaced Families Worldwide

IOM

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has launched its second annual Ramadan campaign, "Share the Blessings," expanding the Islamic Philanthropy Fund (IPF) to support migrants and displaced families affected by crises. Building on last year's appeal in Sudan, the campaign will extend assistance across multiple emergency contexts, responding to growing humanitarian needs driven by conflict, climate impacts, and displacement.

"At its heart, the IPF is about compassion, solidarity, and our shared responsibility to care for one another," said Mohammed Abdiker, IOM Chief of Staff and Chair of the IPF Advisory Body. "Through the Fund, we make it possible for Zakat to reach people who have been displaced, exploited, or left without protection, helping them meet their needs with dignity and choice. Every contribution is faith in action, delivered with respect, full accountability, and hope."

Ramadan is a time of generosity and solidarity for Muslim communities around the world. Yet for millions of migrants and displaced people, daily life is shaped by insecurity, loss, and limited access to basic services. Through this campaign, IOM makes it easier for donors to give Zakat in a manner fully aligned with Shariah principles, ensuring that assistance reaches those facing acute vulnerability with dignity and respect.

Zakat and Sadaqah given through the Islamic Philanthropy Fund help provide life-saving support, including emergency shelter, health care, protection services, and emergency cash assistance. Through cash assistance, families can decide for themselves how best to meet their most urgent needs, preserving dignity while also supporting local economies, even in times of crisis.

Funds raised during the campaign will support IOM's work with eligible displaced families, stranded migrants, survivors of trafficking, and vulnerable host communities across priority contexts, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Gaza, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen.

The IPF is IOM's global mechanism for the collection, management, and distribution of Zakat, Sadaqah and other forms of Muslim alms. The IPF is committed to a 100 per cent Zakat distribution policy, with all Zakat contributions delivered directly to eligible beneficiaries in full alignment with Shariah principles and IOM's financial and accountability standards. The Fund operates in accordance with recognized fatawa confirming IOM's eligibility to collect and administer Muslim alms.

Since its launch, the Fund has expanded through digital campaigns and direct engagement with donors, increasing access to faith-aligned giving while reinforcing transparency and trust. As humanitarian needs continue to rise, IOM is further strengthening the IPF as part of broader efforts to diversify and sustain funding that supports migrants and displaced people worldwide.

Donations to the Ramadan and Zakat campaigns can be made through IOM's secure online platform ( English and Arabic ).
