The home of the City of Casey's largest soccer club had its brand-new pavilion officially opened when the Jack Thomas Reserve Pavilion was unveiled to the community on Sunday 6 October.
The new $4 million pavilion in Narre Warren North incorporates upgraded changerooms, public toilets, a community room, kitchen and canteen, office, scorer rooms and storage.
In addition to these facilities, a public art piece titled 'The Den', has been erected at the entrance to the carpark, a visually stunning piece of art that embraces the reserves connection to sport and wellbeing.
The City of Casey has more than 70 recreation reserves and City of Casey Mayor Cr Amanda Stapledon said the reopening of this pavilion will ensure that club's such as the Berwick City Soccer Club, can continue to operate effectively and give residents across Casey the chance to participate in a sport they love.
"This new pavilion will support our residents to be active and healthy, and it's what the members of our local sporting clubs deserve," Cr Stapledon said.
"These new upgrades will also mean that Jack Thomas Reserve is seen as a bigger draw card for hosting games and tournaments, due to its new facilities.
"I hope the Berwick City Soccer Club, as well as any other users of this reserve, make the most of these new upgrades and that they go a long way to help foster participation in sport in the City of Casey."
The value of the upgrades totaled nearly $4 million, which includes $1,780,000 through the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning's Growing Suburbs Fund, $100,000 from Sport and Recreation Victoria's (SRV) Community Sports Infrastructure Fund and just over $2 million from the City of Casey.
Council has also delivered the Jack Thomas Reserve Multi-Pitch Redevelopment in partnership with the Victorian Government, with $100,000 provided from SRV's The World Game Facilities Fund.
