Today, the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development, along with the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, and the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, welcomed Yasutoshi Nishimura, Japan's Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, to Ottawa.

Minister Nishimura joined ministers Ng, Champagne and Wilkinson at a signing ceremony for 2 memorandums of cooperation (MoCs), demonstrating the growing relationship between Canada and Japan, as well as Canada's commitment to deepening its existing relationships and forging new connections in the Indo-Pacific region.

The MoC on Battery Supply Chains supports cooperation between Canada and Japan in establishing sustainable and reliable global battery supply chains. The MoC on Industrial Science and Technology aims to create closer scientific collaboration between Canadian and Japanese partners in emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, clean technology and life sciences.

On the margins of the signing ceremony, each Canadian minister also had an opportunity to sit down with Minister Nishimura to highlight the strong bilateral relationship between the 2 countries and discuss ways to further advance Canada and Japan's shared interests in the Indo-Pacific region and globally.
