John Bradley To Lead Australia's National EPA

Mr John Bradley PSM will be the first CEO of Australia's National Environmental Protection Agency.

He has over 25 years of leadership experience across environment, water, energy, climate and planning. He has led major reforms in both government and the private sector.

Most recently, Mr Bradley led Victoria's Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action and Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning.

During this time, he oversaw significant policy and regulatory reforms.

Mr Bradley has also held senior roles in Queensland and Western Australia. His experience includes work across government, industry and the not-for-profit sector in environment, resources, energy and water.

The National EPA will begin operations on 1 July, bringing together Australia's main national environmental regulatory functions.

A key focus will be building strong relationships with the state and territories, industry and the community.

The agency will be a strong, independent regulator. It will:

  • improve compliance with environmental laws
  • improve accountability and transparency in decision making
  • support national productivity through faster, more efficient project decisions.

The National EPA will play a key role in ensuring that:

  • environmental standards are applied effectively
  • approvals processes are more streamlined
  • national environmental laws are enforced
  • there is clear guidance to improve community understanding of environmental laws.

Mr Bradley's appointment will help establish a regulator that is capable, trusted and responsive.

Mr Bradley has been appointed for 5 years.
