More than $2,200 was raised through the Mount Gambier Community Mayor's Christmas Appeal Christmas in July fundraiser on Friday 24 July 2026, with businesses, schools and organisations across the community embracing the festive spirit to support local families in need.
Participants donned Christmas colours, festive jumpers, costumes and accessories while making donations to the appeal, helping raise vital funds that will be distributed locally through the Christmas Cheer Program.
The inaugural fundraiser was supported by local businesses, schools, organisations and individuals, raising a total of $2,235 for the Mount Gambier Community Mayor's Christmas Appeal.
City of Mount Gambier Mayor Lynette Martin thanked everyone who participated in the event and supported the appeal.
"I was absolutely delighted by the way our community embraced Christmas in July. It was fantastic to see businesses, organisations and schools across the city get behind the concept, have some fun and support an important local cause at the same time," Mayor Martin said.
"The enthusiasm and creativity people brought to the fundraiser was wonderful to see, and I am excited about the opportunity to see Christmas in July become an annual community event. We would love to see it grow bigger and better next year, with even more businesses, schools and community groups getting involved and spreading some festive cheer in the middle of the year."
Mayor Martin acknowledged the generosity of all supporters, whether they dressed up or simply made a donation.
"While many participants embraced the theme by dressing up, I also want to thank those who chose to support the appeal through a donation. Every contribution will help make a real difference for local individuals and families in need."
As part of the fundraiser, the Flinders University South Australian Medical Program was awarded the best dressed prize and will receive a morning tea provided by the Mayor.
Funds raised through the Mount Gambier Community Mayor's Christmas Appeal are distributed through the Christmas Cheer Program, delivered by UnitingCare, ac.care, St Vincent de Paul and The Salvation Army. The program provides practical assistance including food hampers, gifts and vouchers to individuals and families experiencing hardship, helping ensure they can experience the joy and dignity of Christmas.
"Christmas in July is a reminder that generosity and kindness can make a meaningful difference at any time of the year. By supporting the appeal now, our community is helping ensure assistance is available well ahead of the festive season," Mayor Martin said.
In addition to funds raised through the Christmas in July initiative, the appeal has received two anonymous donations of $500 during 2026, highlighting the ongoing community support for the Mayor's Christmas Appeal throughout the year.
The Mayor's Community Christmas Appeal is a registered charitable initiative, with donations accepted year-round and tax deductible for eligible individuals and organisations.
