There's even more to explore at K Road Cliffs, with Wyndham City completing stage one of the mammoth $32.2 million K Road Cliffs and Road Reconstruction project, located in the heart of the Werribee South tourism precinct.
The upgrades have transformed the K Road Cliffs Precinct into an even more spectacular destination, featuring a brand-new clifftop walking path complete with lookout points that showcase sweeping views of the Werribee River and surrounding landscape.
Other highlights include a new staircase leading down to the river, car park upgrades, a picnic shelter, and interpretive signage that shares stories about the area's rich cultural and environmental history.
This project also included important drainage improvements to help mitigate cliff erosion, ensuring this iconic location can be enjoyed for generations to come.
Wyndham City Mayor, Councillor Mia Shaw, said these enhancements have created a more enjoyable and accessible destination while also preserving this important landmark.
"The K Road Cliffs are a truly special part of Werribee South's natural landscape, and these upgrades have made a remarkable difference to the area," Cr Shaw said.
"Stage one works have significantly improved the visitor experience, providing safer access, stunning new viewpoints and a stronger focus on sustainability."
"The views from the new cliff-top trail are absolutely breathtaking - it's the perfect spot to take a walk, have a picnic or simply soak up the scenery."
"Importantly, this project strikes a great balance between improving access and protecting the environment, with the drainage works and interpretive signage helping us care for the cliffs and sharing their rich cultural story."
Wyndham City thanks the Victorian Government for its $1.5 million contribution and Melbourne Water for their $25,000 investment, both of which have been pivotal in the successful completion of stage one.
Work is now underway on stage two of the K Road Cliffs and Road Reconstruction project, which will rebuild 2.8 kilometres of K Road between Duncans Road and the K Road Cliffs with sealed shoulders.
The project will also deliver an improved intersection at Main Drive to boost access to and from major attractions such as the Werribee Open Range Zoo, Werribee Mansion, the National Equestrian Centre, and the Victoria State Rose Garden, as well as a shared user path for pedestrians and cyclists, and enhanced connections to existing bus stops.
