Kalgoorlie fire arrest

Kalgoorlie Detectives have charged a 39-year-old man as a result of their investigation into a fire that occurred about 1.45am on Thursday, 12 October 2023 at the Breakfast Burger Barbecue restaurant, located on Hay Street in Kalgoorlie.

It will be alleged the man forced entry into the store, stole items whilst inside and set fire to the shop on exiting. The property was engulfed by flames and completely destroyed.

Subsequently a neighbouring mechanical workshop was also severely damaged by the fire resulting in a damage bill estimated at $820,000.00 and over 1.3 million dollars in estimated loss of revenue.

The 39-year-old man from Kalgoorlie has been charged with:

• One count of Burglary and Commit;

• One count of Stealing; and

• One count of Criminal Damage by Fire.

He is due to appear before the Kalgoorlie Magistrates Court on Monday, 11 December 2023.
