Kalgulup Regional Park Showcased In New EBook

  • New digital guide explores the park's cultural stories and natural wonders
  • eBook launch follows major upgrades to visitor infrastructure
  • 'Kalgulup' means 'place of fire' or 'burning campfires' in Noongar language

A dynamic new eBook celebrating the rich cultural history and diverse ecosystems of Kalgulup Regional Park is now available.

The 3,168 hectare park is a mosaic of landscapes stretching across the Leschenault Estuary, and the Collie, Brunswick and Preston rivers in the Greater Bunbury area. It features breathtaking coastal dunes, river foreshores, bushland, and the State's southernmost white mangrove community - estimated to be 20,000 years old.

The eBook invites readers to explore the park, learn about its cultural and environmental values, and engage with the many stories that shape it.

The release of the eBook backs in the more than $10 million in recent State Government investment to improve visitor infrastructure in Kalgulup Regional Park - part of the Plan for Our Parks initiative.

Recent upgrades to Kalgulup Regional Park include:

  • a new 190m boardwalk through the white mangroves at Mangrove Cove;
  • an upgraded 820m shared path around the Leschenault Inlet;
  • two new lookouts, walkways and improved beach access at Maidens Reserve;
  • new interpretive signage explaining the park's cultural ecological significance; and
  • an accessible playground at Mangrove Cove.

The eBook was created by Lorna Charlton from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions with photographs from renowned WA-based photographer Ian Brodie. The project was supported by members of the Kalgulup Regional Park Community Advisory Committee and Gnaala Karla Booja Aboriginal Corporation.
