Kate Jacewicz named AFF Referee of year (Women)

Football Federation Australia (FFA) wishes to congratulate referee Kate Jacewicz on being named the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Referee of the Year (Women) at the gala AFF Awards which were held last night in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Jacewicz enjoyed another outstanding year with the whistle, culminating in her taking charge of her ninth Westfield W-League Grand Final when she officiated the decider between Sydney FC and Perth Glory in February 2019.

The seven times Westfield W-League referee of the year was one of 75 match officials from across the globe appointed to officiate at the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup in France.

She also created history in August of this year when she became the first female referee appointed to the Hyundai A-League Referees Panel to enable her to take control of matches in both the Westfield W-League and Hyundai A-League.

FFA Chairman and chair of the FFA Referees committee, Chris Nikou, said that the award reflects the outstanding level expertise and professionalism that Kate Jacewicz prides herself on.

"Kate is one of the world's finest referees and thoroughly deserves this award. Whatever the game, whatever the level, she is a model of consistency and class.

"Her work on the pitch is a reminder to us all just how vital referees are to the lifeblood and well-being of our game," Mr. Nikou said.
