Katoomba Hit-and-Run: Police Probe Fatal Crash

A man has died after a fail to stop crash in the Blue Mountains area tonight.

About 6.15pm (Thursday 17 September 2026), emergency services were called to westbound lanes of the Great Western Highway, at Katoomba, after reports of a crash.

On arrival, officers attached to Blue Mountains Police Area Command were told a white sedan collided with a motorcycle, before the sedan drove from the scene.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the rider, a 57-year-old man; however, he died at the scene.

A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is underway, with the assistance of the Crash Investigation Unit.

Westbound lanes on the Great Western Highway remain closed and motorists are urged to avoid the area. Monitor Livetraffic.com for traffic updates.
