Katoomba outdoor pool area upgrades officially open

Enjoyed by the community since Australia Day earlier this year, the recently upgraded Image of Councilor Suzie Van Opdorp, Sales and Wellbeing Officer Jessica Girard and Mayor Mark Greenhill at the new outdoor pool area at Katoomba Sports and Aquatic Centre.

outdoor pool area at Katoomba Sports and Aquatic Centre is now officially open.

Blue Mountains Mayor, Mark Greenhill, launched the new pool area upgrades, following the

recent completion of the project.

"While the outdoor pools have been available to use since late-January, there remained some small pieces of work that have now been finished,' he said.

"Thank you to the community for your patience as we've worked to get the new outdoor pools and concourse area ready. We know people will continue to enjoy these upgrades over many summers to come."

The new upgrades feature:

• a new children's pool with a curved beach entry and water play for families

• an accessible pathway from the entrance of the aquatic centre to the outdoor area

• a family friendly toilet and change facilities

• an accessible ramp into the outdoor 50 metre pool

• upgrades to the edges and guttering (also known as a wet deck) around the main outdoor pool

• new shade shelters

• painting of the pool

• repaired pool filtration.

"One of the most important benefits these upgrades bring to the outdoor pool area is a focus on accessibility. It's wonderful that we now have an accessible ramp into the newly tiled and painted 50-metre pool, together with an accessible pathway that links to the entrance of the Aquatic Centre.

"It's fitting that we formally open these upgrades and recognise the work that's been done. It's been a difficult project to navigate, with more than 70 days of inclement weather during the construction period, together with industry-wide material and supply shortages.

"Now that the work to deliver this modern outdoor pool area is complete, I encourage locals and visitors alike to pay the centre a vist. Our wonderful staff are excited about the upgrades and look forward to welcoming you."
