A 23-year-old Kawl Kawl man has been charged with 26 offences, following a series of vehicle thefts and a traffic crash in the South Burnett yesterday afternoon, 8 January.
It will be alleged around 10am, a stolen white Nissan Navara was seen doing burnouts in a field on Stegemanns Road in Moffatdale before the vehicle crashed into a drain on Harms Road in Wheatlands.
Two men then allegedly fled the scene, and police took a 31-year-old Murgon man into custody a short time later.
Police have charged the 31-year-old Murgon man with two counts of wilful damage and one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle (used in company to damage property), and issued him with a notice to appear before Kingaroy Magistrates Court today, 9 January.
Police will allege that a 23-year-old Kawl Kawl man fled the scene, and stole five further vehicles in his attempt to evade police.
Around 11.40am, police were notified of an armed robbery at a Kawl Kawl residence, where it is believed the 23-year-old offender stole a White Hyundai Accent.
Police attempted to intercept the man driving the stolen vehicle, however the vehicle fled the scene.
Further reports were made to police involving the theft and subsequent abandonment of a white Toyota Hilux in Memerambi, and the theft of a blue Toyota Hilux in South Nanango.
Around 4.30pm, police and emergency services were called to Kingaroy Cooyar Road following reports of a serious crash involving a blue and a white Toyota Hilux.
Police can confirm there was no direct police pursuit or intercept at the time of the crash.
The 23-year-old Kawl Kawl driver of the blue Toyota Hilux was transported to Toowoomba Hospital with serious injuries.
Two occupants of the white Toyota Hilux, a 48-year-old female and a 21-year-old female, were transported to Kingaroy Hospital with injuries reported to be minor. The third occupant, a 44-year-old male, was airlifted to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane in a serious but stable condition.
The 23-year-old Kawl Kawl man received a total of 26 charges, including one charge each of:
- Armed robbery
- Dangerous operation of motor vehicle whilst adversely affected causing grievous bodily harm
- Enter premises and commit by break
- Possessing dangerous drugs
- Authority required to possess explosive
- Unlawful possession of property reasonably suspected of being stolen
- Trespass
The man was also charged with six counts each of unlawful use of motor vehicle and unlicenced driving offences, five wilful damage offences, and two dangerous operation of motor with two prior prescribed offence convictions.
