Hurstville Library will temporarily close from 1 December 2025 to allow for essential fire system improvements, with the library set to reopen in February 2026.
While the building is closed, there will be a pop-up library in the Georges River Civic Centre. Located at the corner of MacMahon and Dora Streets, Hurstville. At the pop-up library, people will be able to speak to a librarian, pick up reservations, borrow from a limited range of collections, and access public computers, Wi-Fi, printing, copying and scanning.
The limited collections available at the Civic Centre pop up library include:
-
Popular new and just returned items.
-
Quick Reads.
-
Newspapers.
-
Children's books.
-

Our regular Hurstville Library programs, as well as a fun range of school holiday activities to keep families and young people connected during January, will be delivered at the nearby Blackshaw Gould Community Pavilion in the Hurstville Oval precinct at the corner of Dora and Gordon Streets, Hurstville.

Mayor Elise Borg said, "We know how important library services are to our community, and we've made sure that the transition is as smooth as possible.
"Most of the services you know and love will continue while we carry out necessary upgrades."
Council thanks the community for their patience and cooperation during this period. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to Hurstville Library in the new year.
