Kempsey Shire Council Urges Celebration of Reconciliation Week

Kempsey Shire Council

We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures.

Let's come together to celebrate National Reconciliation Week 27 May - 3 June 2024.

The National Reconciliation Week theme for 2024, Now More Than Ever, is a reminder to all of us that no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will —and must —continue.

We acknowledge the land of the Thunggutti/Dunghutti Nation. We pay respect to Elders past and present. We acknowledge the role of emerging leaders to continue to guide us in the future. We acknowledge the Stolen Generations and the need to change practices to be inclusive. This land always was and always will be Thunggutti/Dunghutti land.

Thank you to local artist Stephen McLeod whose traditional artwork is used throughout Kempsey Shire as part of National Reconciliation Week to celebrate our rich and vibrant cultural heritage.
