Kendall Street Reserve: Bayside

Bayside Council's discussions with the Department of Education regarding the Kendall Street Reserve lease will continue following a decision at the Council Meeting on Wednesday 27 May.

Kendall Street Reserve in Sans Souci is a large parcel of publicly accessible open space in the Bayside Council area. The land is owned by the Department of Education (DoE), with Council previously managing it under a 50-year lease that was due to expire in 2025.

The reserve functions primarily as a basic local play space and features limited facilities despite being a substantial open area near Botany Bay.

Council is keen to explore modern, inclusive recreational and other creative uses of this reserve that better serve the growing Bayside community while respecting the site's history and environmental context.

The NSW EPA Contaminated Land Record lists Kendall Street Reserve as a former landfill site and Council will need to carefully consider any contamination issues related to redevelopment of the site.

A report based on the outcome of discussions with the Department of Education will be tabled at a future Council Meeting.
