ARTC
  • Maintenance and improvement works will close the Southern Highlands line for 52.5hrs hours from 2-5 May
  • Rail line closed between Enfield West and Moss Vale, between Moss Vale to Goulburn, and between Goulburn and Junee
  • Works are part of a program to improve network safety and reliability

The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) will undertake essential maintenance and improvement works this weekend on the main line between Enfield West and Junee, as part of a scheduled 52.5-hour shutdown of the Southern Highlands line.

The works will take place between:

  • Enfield and Moss Vale from 10.30pm Friday 2 May to 3am Monday 5 May
  • Moss Vale and Goulburn from 6am Saturday 3 May to 8am Monday 5 May, and
  • Goulburn and Junee from 6am Saturday 3 May to 3am Monday 5 May.

Maintenance activities include re-railing, track reconditioning, signalling system upgrade, vegetation and mudhole removal at various locations, track ballasting and tamping activities.

These works are part of ARTC's commitment to maintain safety and enhance the reliability of our network.

Critical signalling works will also be undertaken on the Southern Highlands Overtaking Opportunities (SHOO) project in preparation for commissioning of the Werai site in September 2025.

On completion, the SHOO project will allow for more efficient movement of freight and passenger rail services between Sydney and Melbourne.

Coaches will replace all NSW Trainlink services during the closedown. Customers should contact Transport for NSW (13 22 22) to plan their journey and view alternate transport arrangements.

ARTC is reminding motorists to remain vigilant and slow down at level crossings during the shutdown, with heavy machinery operating on and around the rail line.

These works are expected to generate some noise at times during both the day and night. However, ARTC has made every effort to minimise disruptions, including limiting the most impactful activities to daylight hours and using noise-reducing equipment where possible.
