Thirteen medical professionals from the First Hospital of Lanzhou University, China, recently spent an intensive week at Karolinska Institutet, diving into clinical research methodology from a global public health perspective. The professional education course offered a dynamic mix of lectures, discussions, and collaborative learning.

The course was led by Professor Cecilia Stålsby Lundborg, from the Department of Global Public Health. Held September 22-25, 2025, the training aimed to deepen participants' understanding of clinical research methodologies and how they can be applied in diverse healthcare settings. Topics ranged from qualitative and quantitative methods to ethics in research, diagnostic studies, and global antibiotic resistance.
"It was a pleasure to welcome such engaged and experienced participants," said Professor Stålsby Lundborg. "The exchange of perspectives enriched the discussions, and I hope the tools and methods shared during the course will support their continued work in strengthening clinical research and public health."
One of the participants shared some reflections:
"This was a very useful and comprehensive training. It has been eye-opening, and I look forward to implementing new methods when I return. The group discussions were engaging, and the lecturers were not only knowledgeable but also very patient with us, considering our different educational backgrounds."
The course included contributions from Dr. Pavan Asalapuram, PhD, as well as other KI faculty members, including Associate Professors Jaran Eriksen and Helle Mölsted Alvesson, and Professor Lucie Laflamme.
