KidSport has hit $10 million in under a year, helping almost 30,000 children throughout Western Australia take part in community sport.

The WA Government program supports eligible children from low-income families to help cover the costs of registration fees, essential uniforms and playing equipment.

Nearly 2,000 sporting clubs take part in the program, with basketball proving the most popular sport in the past year, closely followed by AFL, swimming, football and netball.

Since its inception in 2011, more than 360,000 KidSport vouchers have been provided to about 130,000 children, totalling over $60 million.

KidSport is available to eligible children aged between 5 and 18 years old. For more information visit www.dlgsc.wa.gov.au/kidsport

As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti:

"We know the enormous physical, social and emotional benefits sport provides to our community.

"It's incredible knowing KidSport has helped close to 30,000 Western Australian children participate in community sport who might not have ordinarily.

"KidSport is about more than just getting children to play sport - it provides them with the chance to connect with their communities, make friends, learn new skills and have fun.

"We're really proud as a government to continue reducing the barriers for families and young people participating in sport and investing record amounts in community sporting infrastructure."
