Professor Jill Manthorpe, professor of social work at King's, has been awarded a CBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours
Professor Jill Manthorpe, who has worked at King's College London for over 20 years and is its first and only professor of social work, has been made a Commander of the British Empire (CBE), it was announced today.
Professor Manthorpe was awarded her honour as part of the Queen's Birthday Honours list 2022 for services to Social Work and Social Care Research.
She is the Director of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Policy Research Unit in Health and Social Care Workforce, Associate Director of the NIHR School for Social Care Research and social care theme lead for the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) South London and Academic Lead for Making Research Count London.
Prof Manthorpe's research spans social care and health services in the UK and internationally. She also has been and continues to be a Trustee for a range of voluntary sector organisations and has been a non-executive director for NHS Community, Mental Health and Primary Care Trusts.
She said the award is further recognition of the importance of social care and social work research.

It is hugely inspiring to learn from people with a passion to make the world a better place through their work.
