King's announces decision to insource Facilities Management services from New Hunts House and the Franklin-Wilkins Building
King's College London has today announced its decision to insource Facilities Management services from New Hunts House and the Franklin-Wilkins Building to King's from next year.
Staff in these buildings are responsible for delivering vital support services to ensure the smooth running of the university. This decision means that from August 2024 when the Bouygues contract ends and following a due process, King's will directly employ these staff.
Stephen Large, Senior Vice President (Operations) at King's said:
"We are delighted to be working towards bringing these staff members to King's next year. They deliver such a valued and vital service to the university, keeping our services running efficiently and effectively. Thank you to Bouygues for their ongoing partnership and support and, also to our colleagues at UNISON for their heartfelt campaigning and who like us, believe it is only right as the contract expires, we bring these services inhouse to King's."
Led by Estates & Facilities, the work to progress this important step of transferring and integrating services from Bouygues to King's is in its early stages. In 2019, the Estates & Facilities team led and managed the insourcing of over four hundred cleaning and security staff to become directly employed by King's.
Nick O'Donnell, Director of Estates & Facilities at King's added:
"Staff working in these buildings provide vital support for both students' learning and teaching and for our staff carrying out research. Managed by our service partner Bouygues since 1999, the buildings were built as part of a highly successful 25-year Private Finance Initiative contract between King's and Bouygues which comes to an end in August 2024. We look forward to bringing these staff members into King's at the end of the contract."
UNISON and King's have released a joint statement on the decision.
