Kingsford Smith Park Master Plan: Ballina Shire

Kingsford Smith Park Master Plan

Ballina Shire Council is developing a Master Plan for Kingsford Smith Reserve, one of Ballina's premier sporting and recreational precincts that includes Kingsford Smith Park, Commemoration Park and Missingham Park.

Ballina Shire Council has received funds as part of an election commitment from The Hon. Ben Franklin and the Office of Sport to upgrade some facilities at Kingsford Smith Park to meet the requirements of a regional sporting facility.

"Some of the facilities in Kingsford Smith Reserve are ageing and need to be replaced or renovated to bring them up to current accessibility or inclusivity standards. To ensure the upgrade aligns with a broader vision for the precinct, Council has engaged a consultant to prepare a master plan for the broader Kingsford Smith Reserve area," said Tara McGready, Manager Strategic Planning for Ballina Shire Council.

"The Master Plan will include concept designs for the three individual parks that make up the whole Kingsford Smith precinct. The area is one of Ballina's major sporting and recreational areas, and it is naturally beautiful with scenic views of North Creek and the Richmond River. We really need to look at the precinct as a whole and have a clear vision for the future, making it an open space that can be enjoyed for many years to come, at the same time meeting the needs of our growing community," Ms McGready added.

Council is appealing to the community to have their say on what improvements, aspirations and facilities are needed for the future via a short survey on Council's website. Submissions Close Wednesday 9 June 2021.
