Kirwan Park To Get Locals Moving

A park in Kirwan is set to raise the heart rate of locals and visitors alike as it receives a new lease on life thanks to the installation of new fitness equipment.

Division five councillor Vera Dirou said she was excited to see local contractor, Jmac Constructions begin the park refurb after community consultation wrapped up in 2023.

"Back in 2023 Council had to remove the damaged water fountains from Edenbridge park, which left the space lacking something and needing a bit of love," Cr Dirou said.

"So Council went out with a survey asking the community what they would like to see in the park and while there were some great ideas, the best fit for the space and a really popular option was free community fitness equipment.

"Being outdoors and active plays such a massive part of life here in north Queensland so I have no doubt these facilities will be well utilised in the months and years to come."

The park was closed and works began today on the project which is expected to take two months.

"I'm so glad that works are underway to bring the heartbeat back to Edenbridge Park with this new refurbishment," she said.

"Works will include installing themed fitness equipment, new bench seating, a picnic table, drinking fountain and some landscaping and irrigation works.

"The project should take roughly two months to complete, so the park should be back in action and ready to use for the best months of the year."
