Campaspe Shire Council is improving pedestrian safety in the Kyabram CBD, with three crossings set for upgrades thanks to a $290,000 investment through the Victorian Government's Safe Local Roads and Streets Program.
The works will deliver a range of safety improvements, including new raised pedestrian crossings, upgraded lighting where required, improved line marking and signage, and new concrete kerb and footpath connections.
Campaspe Shire Mayor Cr Daniel Mackrell said the raised crossings would enhance pedestrian safety.
"This type of crossing not only encourages drivers to slow down by clearly defining the pedestrian area and providing a physical speed bump but also elevates pedestrian visibility for drivers."
Construction will be carried out by Cleaves Earthmoving, with works scheduled to commence in the week beginning Tuesday 9 June 2026 at the following locations:
- Bradley Street – between Church and Union streets
- Allan Street – between Lake Road and Union Street
- Allan Street – between Union and Albion streets.
Works will begin on Bradley Street, with the Allan Street sites to follow immediately after.
To minimise disruption, one vehicle lane will remain open at all times, and motorists and pedestrians are asked to follow all traffic management directions and contractor instructions.
"These upgrades are part of Council's ongoing commitment to improving road safety and reducing the risk of road trauma for all road users," Cr Mackrell said.
This project is funded by the Victorian Government though the $214 million Safe Local Roads and Streets Program, developed by the Department of Transport and Planning in partnership with the Transport Accident Commission to support safety improvements on local roads across Victoria.
