Labor Invests In Geelong's Sporting Heartland

Labor is backing Geelong's Kardinia Park with a precinct plan to ensure it continues to meet the needs of the region.

Kardinia Park has been a critical sporting and events destination for more than 100 years.

The Precinct Plan will be led by the Kardinia Park Stadium Trust in partnership with the Government, the City of Greater Geelong and precinct stakeholders.

It will investigate what else could be added to the sporting precinct.

The plan will go out for consultation and be completed by the end of the year.

Kardinia Park is one of Australia's premier regional sporting and major events destinations.

It hosts AFL and AFLW regular season games, the Big Bash League cricket, and the Matildas in 2024-25.

It also generated $190 million for the economy, supported 1,200 jobs and welcomed more than 480,000 visitors across 44 on-field events last financial year.

Labor continues to back Kardinia Park with the $142 million Stage 5 redevelopment that delivered the Joel Selwood Stand, increasing stadium capacity to 40,000.

It also added the Djilang Plaza, the Barwon Regional Cricket Centre and the Geelong Sports Museum.
