April 15, 2019 – Rivière-Ouelle, Quebec – Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

Lambert Peat Moss is one of the key players in the peat moss industry in Quebec. To ensure its growth, the company is receiving a repayable contribution of $1.9 million from Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions. With this financial assistance, the SME will be able to improve its productivity through the adoption of advanced automated technologies and develop new high-value-added horticultural products.

The funding was announced today by the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities. More specifically, the Government of Canada’s assistance will help Lambert Peat Moss optimize its facilities in Rivière-Ouelle, in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region, and Longue‑Rive, in the Côte-Nord region, and acquire more technological and efficient production equipment.

Founded in 1928, Lambert Peat Moss is a fourth-generation family-owned business developing innovative sphagnum peat moss-based horticultural products that increase the growth of crops (flowers, vegetables, fruits, grasses, trees and shrubs). The company has over 200 employees and operates six production plants in the Bas-Saint-Laurent, Côte-Nord and Saguenay regions. It also has a distribution centre for the U.S. market in Beloeil, near Montréal.

The Government of Canada is committed to creating close partnerships with Quebec businesses to support their efforts to innovate and increase their productivity and competitiveness, and contribute to the economic vitality of the regions, job creation and the improvement of citizens’ quality of life.

“We have big plans for our regions. By investing in projects like that of Lambert Peat Moss, we are making good on our commitment to help companies expand, innovate and export their products and services in order to create quality jobs. When regional businesses thrive, the Canadian economy as a whole reaps the benefits.”

The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities

“Digital technologies are changing ways of doing things around the world, providing Canadian companies with development opportunities.
