Lancaster Opens 2026 Community Benefit Fund Apps

Lancaster

Lancaster University has opened applications for the 2026 round of its Community Benefit Fund, with local groups invited to apply before Friday 3 July 2026.

Now in its thirteenth year, the fund was created to ensure that the benefits of the University's on-campus wind turbine are shared with communities across the Lancaster District. Each year, £20,000 is allocated to support projects that enhance the local environment, strengthen community wellbeing, and contribute to positive, long-term change.

Since its launch, the Community Benefit Fund has supported 116 initiatives, investing over £240,000 into environmental improvements, community facilities, educational activities, and neighbourhood projects that make a tangible difference to local people.

The University is encouraging applications from trusts, community groups, voluntary organisations and Parish Councils based within Lancaster District (to the east of the River Lune). Both new and established groups are welcome to apply, and proposals can range from small-scale improvements to larger community-led initiatives.

Jonathan Mills, Sustainability Manager at Lancaster University said: "It is great to receive applications and learn about the fantastic local community and environmental projects planned and underway. We are delighted to be able to continue supporting the creativity, commitment, and resilience of local groups who work tirelessly to improve life across the district. The Community Benefit Fund is one of the ways we ensure our renewable energy generation directly benefits the communities around us."
