The Crisafulli Government is delivering a fresh start for young Queenslanders in the fast-growing Greater Flagstone Priority Development Area by purchasing land for a future secondary school.
This 9.3-hectare site is located within Mirvac's Everleigh Development at Greenbank and will help cater for future students as population growth continues in the area.
The Greater Flagstone Priority Development Area is expected to be home 138,000 people and about 51,500 dwellings with nearby employment hubs in North Maclean and Bromelton.
Currently, this area is serviced by Park Ridge State High School and Flagstone State Community College, which have capacity to accommodate the predicted enrolment until at least 2029.
The former Labor Government made promises to acquire this land in 2020 but failed to deliver on their own election commitment.
The Crisafulli Government is delivering 15 new schools in the $21.9 billion Education Budget, including new primary schools in Caloundra South and Ripley Valley, and six special schools to provide choice to parents and help all students reach their potential.
The Department of Education will commence development of a business case in 2026 to help inform planning and delivery of the new high school which is expected beyond 2028.
Until a new high school is delivered, enrolments will continue to be accommodated in the surrounding secondary schooling network at local schools including Flagstone State Community College and Park Ridge State High School.
Minister for Education John-Paul Langbroek said the new high school in Greater Flagstone would be needed in coming years to meet population growth.
"The Crisafulli Government is delivering new, expanded, and upgraded infrastructure to ensure all students have access to a world-class education," Minister Langbroek said.
"We know this fast-growing area will need a new secondary school in the future and that's why we're planning ahead and purchasing the land.
"Securing the land now is the financially responsible thing to help keep costs down in the long run.
"While the community continues to grow, we will monitor the pace of residential development, population growth, and enrolment needs.
"Labor failed to secure the land at Greenbank for a school, and we know they failed to fund the schools they promised in Caloundra South and Ripley Valley.
"We have secured the land and we will keep residents informed as planning progresses."
