The Victorian Interpreting and Translating Service (VITS) LanguageLoop is recruiting a new Board Chair to help ensure Victorians have access to high-quality language services and information, with support from the Allan Labor Government.
Minister for Multicultural Affairs Ingrid Stitt today announced applications are open for the role, with current Chairperson, Professor Kathy Laster AM set to complete her tenure at the end of this year.
The Board Chair is responsible for governing the organisation, enhancing engagement and providing strategic advice and financial direction. The role is open to candidates with significant experience and demonstrated interest in language services, educational programs and commercial service provision in diverse cultural settings.
Professor Laster was appointed in 2020 and has been an instrumental leader, championing key initiatives and fostering a strong culture of innovation and collaboration.
The next Board Chair will continue Professor Laster's strong record of driving growth, expanding community outreach and advancing the organisation's mission to serve diverse communities through comprehensive interpreting services.
VITS LanguageLoop has more than 3,600 professional interpreters who provide important translating services in over 190 languages, including Aboriginal languages. All nine Board members speak a language other than English.
In 2022/23 VITS LanguageLoop assisted more than 430,000 people across Victoria through their work interpreting on-site, by telephone or via video conference, as well as translating nearly five million words.
