The City of Casey is inviting residents to catch Maria Fernanda Cardoso: Spiders of Paradise, at the Bunjil Place Gallery, before the exhibition closes on Sunday 22 February.
Internationally renowned artist Maria Fernanda Cardoso brings together art, science and nature in Spiders of Paradise, an exhibition celebrating the extraordinary Australian Maratus spider.
Measuring less than 5mm, the Maratus spider is famous for its vibrant colours and elaborate mating rituals, this exhibition offers audiences a rare glimpse into the hidden lives of these tiny creatures.
Mayor Cr Stefan Koomen said the exhibition delivers an unexpected and memorable experience.
"I was amazed by the beauty of these spiders and how much detail is revealed when you see them at this scale. They're tiny in real life but seeing them blown up into these incredible artworks is truly impressive and something people won't forget," he said.
Featuring large-scale photographic portraits, created from more than 1,000 individual images, produced in collaboration with scientific imager Geoff Thompson and Queensland entomologist Andy Wang, the exhibition reveals the extraordinary colour and detail of these spiders.
An immersive video installation also captures the Maratus spider's complex courtship dance, showcasing sophisticated communication through vibration and movement.
