Latrobe City 2027 Awards, Hall of Fame Nominations Open

Nominations for Latrobe City Council's 2027 Australia Day Awards and Sporting Hall of Fame are now open.

The Australia Day Awards recognise local individuals and groups who have made an outstanding contribution to the community. Nominations can be submitted by any individual or community group.

The Sporting Hall of Fame celebrates exceptional athletes and sporting contributors who have left a lasting legacy in Latrobe City.

Latrobe City Council Mayor, Councillor Sharon Gibson, encouraged residents to take the opportunity to recognise the people who make a difference in their community.

"Every town, club and neighbourhood has people who quietly get on with helping others and making life better for those around them. These awards are about giving those people the recognition they deserve," Cr Gibson said.

"It might be a volunteer who is always there when needed, a community group bringing people together or someone who has dedicated years to local sport. If someone comes to mind, I encourage you to put their name forward.

"We have so many great people in Latrobe City and these awards are a chance for the community to say thank you for the contribution they make every day."

Residents are invited to nominate a person or group for the following Australia Day Award categories:

  • Citizen of the Year
  • Senior Citizen of the Year
  • Young Citizen of the Year
  • Community Event of the Year
  • Community Service of the Year

Latrobe City Council administers the Australia Day Awards on behalf of the National Australia Day Council Victoria.

The Sporting Hall of Fame accepts nominations every four years in the following categories:

  • Legend - an elite competitor who has achieved sporting excellence at the highest level; or
  • Member - an athlete, coach, official, administrator, manager, mentor, sports scientist or sports media representative who has made a significant contribution to sport.

Award recipients will be announced at a civic ceremony on Australia Day, 26 January 2027.

Nominations for both the 2027 Australia Day Awards and the Sporting Hall of Fame close at 5pm on Friday 11 September 2026.
