Latrobe City Council Issues Notice on Park Mulch

We understand community interest in recent media reports regarding contaminated materials found in mulch products used by some Councils in New South Wales and Council's in metropolitan Melbourne.

The EPA has conducted inspections of commercial mulch producers in Latrobe City and other areas of Victoria to ensure products are safe for human health and the environment. No asbestos contamination was found in the mulch products used in Latrobe City.

Council would like to assure residents that when mulch is required to be sourced for Council operations it is sourced from local reputable suppliers with stringent quality control measures. We remain vigilant in preventing any contamination.

We have a range of quality assurance processes in place to manage the use of mulch in our parks, gardens and reserves.

The safety of our community is our priority.
