The Barossa Council is set to launch a $3.1 million redevelopment of recreation facilities at Angas Recreation Park, another milestone in the delivery of The Big Project.
Mayor Bim Lange said the new clubrooms, changerooms and multi-use oval have created more opportunities for people to participate in sport and recreation.
This is our largest investment to-date in a regional sporting ground and we're thrilled to see the community already actively enjoying the new facilities and oval, both for organised sport and everyday use.
Along with the investment by Council, the project was supported by a State Government grant of $881,000 through the Office of Recreation, Sport and Racing and a $330,000 contribution from the Angaston Football Club, alongside its significant in-kind support during project construction.
The new facilities have been welcomed by sporting and community user groups, including Angaston Football Club President Keith Jamieson.
"These facilities certainly give us capacity to attract finals and tournaments across multiple sports, codes, grades and genders, such as the 2023 SANFL Country Championships," Mr Jamieson said.
"Likewise, the junior oval gives us more space for both cricket and football events, as well as bringing the club together on one match day, and provides additional space for our Show and other community events.
"Final fit-out costs will probably push Angaston Football Club's total contribution to over $500,000, in addition to the contribution by the Angaston Cricket Club. We are receiving good support from not only our supporters, but also the community for our dedicated fundraising.
These new facilities are a great addition to our cricket nets, which are state-of-the-art and right up there with district cricket club standards - that's a big plus.
Mayor Lange said Council had worked closely with SACA, SANFL and grassroots sporting clubs to ensure regional Barossa facilities meet contemporary standards.
"This upgrade has been a major undertaking and we thank our club and community representatives, contractors and peak bodies who have all supported our vision of the Barossa as a premier regional sports event tourism destination," Mayor Lange said.
The new facilities will be officially opened on Saturday, 26 March.
