Launch of Operation Victor Litavis, Cluden

Townsville Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) detectives have today launched Operation Victor Litavis to investigate the death of an Aitkenvale man.

Police conducting a search and rescue for the missing 32-year-old discovered his body around 3.15pm on Wednesday April 26 in bushland near the intersection of Ron McClean and Racecourse Roads (Southern Port Access Road).

A crime scene was declared and an investigation centre has been established at the Townsville Police Station to examine the circumstances regarding his death.

The man was reported missing to police by family the afternoon prior with last confirmed sightings of him in Cluden in early April.

As part of the investigation, detectives are appealing for witnesses, especially those with dashcam vision of the Southern Port Access Road in early April to come forward.

Investigators also appeal for anyone who may have seen a distinctive children's sized orange and yellow KTM 50cc motorbike the man was last seen riding in the vicinity of Cluden to make contact.

Police remain in close contact with the family of the man who have asked for privacy as they grieve the loss of their loved one.

Townsville CIB Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Tony Flanders addressed the media in Townsville today, urging anyone with relevant information to come forward, no matter how small.

'Investigations of this nature are complex and time is required to progress them, particularly with respect to whether the death is suspicious or not,' Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Flanders said.

'The investigative team continues to work around the clock on this matter and appeal to the community to assist us with any information they may have, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant-anonymous reports can be made.'
