WHAT Launch of Stillbirth Clinical Care Standard at National Stillbirth Forum

The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care is releasing the first national clinical care standard for stillbirth at the Annual National Stillbirth Forum 2022.

Six babies are stillborn every day in Australia – yet more than 20 per cent of these can be prevented. The new standard aims to reduce the rate of stillbirths and improve care for families experiencing a loss.

In a live panel discussion at the Forum, leading childbirth experts will explore best practice in prevention of stillbirth, investigations after stillbirth and bereavement care.

Award-winning ABC journalist Tegan Taylor is hosting the launch, and Commission Clinical Director and GP, Associate Professor Liz Marles will outline how women can receive the best possible care to prevent stillbirth and receive support following perinatal loss.

The experts will unpack key aspects of the standard such as how to identify stillbirth risks during pregnancy, strategies to reduce the risk, investigations after stillbirth, bereavement care after perinatal loss, and cultural safety and equity in the care provided to women.
