Learner Driver Caught 89km/h Over Limit in Bathurst

A learner driver was allegedly caught 89km over the speed limit in the state's central tablelands yesterday.

About 10am yesterday (Thursday 15 May 2025), officers attached to Bathurst Highway Patrol were conducting stationary speed enforcement on Conrod Straight, Mount Panorama, when a blue Mazda was allegedly detected travelling 149km/h in a signposted 60km/h area.

The driver and sole occupant – a 21-year-old man – was stopped and subjected to a roadside breath, returning a negative result.

He was issued a field court attendance notice for learner exceed speed > 45 km/h – Radar, learner not accompanied by driver/police officer/tester, and drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous.

His licence was also suspended for 6 months and received a caution for not displaying L Plates.

The man will appear at Bathurst Local Court on Wednesday 16 July 2025.
