Leeton Shire Seeks Input on Disability Action Plan

Leeton Shire Council

The Leeton Shire community is invited to share their experiences, insights and ideas to inform the next iteration of Council's Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) 2026-2030.

The fully refreshed DIAP will guide how Council works to create an inclusive community where people with disability feel respected, supported and able to fully participate in everyday life. It is being developed in line with the NSW Disability Inclusion Act 2014 and Council's Delivery Program 2025-29, and will focus on practical actions that make a real difference across Leeton Shire.

Council is particularly keen to hear from people with lived experience of disability, as well as carers, families, advocates and service providers. However, all members of the community are encouraged to take part.

Consultation will be open via a short online survey with feedback accepted until Sunday, 8 March 2026. The survey takes around 5-10 minutes to complete, and all responses will remain confidential.

Alongside the survey, Council is also offering an interactive map participation tool, giving community members the opportunity to mark places across the Shire to share what works well, what creates barriers, and where improvements are needed.

In addition to the online survey and interactive map, Council will also undertake targeted in-person engagement with key stakeholders across the Shire. This includes local disability service providers, support coordinators and other frontline agencies who work closely with people with disability. These conversations will help Council gain deeper insight into service gaps, emerging issues, and opportunities for collaboration to ensure the new DIAP reflects both community experience and sector expertise.

Mayor Cr George Weston said listening to the community is central to developing a meaningful plan that genuinely builds a more inclusive and accessible Leeton Shire.

"People with disability and their families are the experts in their own experiences. This first-hand knowledge will help Council to better understand the challenges people face, and will ensure the draft DIAP that gets developed reflects actual local need as a priority," Mayor Weston said.

To complete the survey or contribute to the interactive map, please visit Council's 'Have Your Say' online engagement portal at https://haveyoursay.leeton.nsw.gov.au. Hard copies of the survey can also be collected from the Council Administration Building, Leeton Shire Library, Yanco Shop and Whitton and Murrami Post Offices (available from Tuesday, 10 February 2026).
