Levande's Bruggeman Named RLC Vice President

With 25 years of not-for-profit experience, followed by government, and now three years in corporate for retirement living, Ms Bruggeman's appointment has been welcomed across the sector.

Ms Bruggeman said her dedication to the retirement living industry is built on personal experience involving her late mother.

"I'm honoured to have been elected Vice President of the Retirement Living Council. It's a role I take on with a great sense of responsibility to the many Australians - and their families - who rely on this sector for safe, connected, and supportive communities as they age," she said.

"For many families, including my own, decisions around retirement living are deeply personal. In my case, supporting my mother through dementia highlighted how important it is that people have access to quality options that respect their independence while providing care and support when it's needed.

"As a sector, we face growing demand, changing expectations and the need to innovate.

"I'm passionate about ensuring we continue to create communities that allow older Australians to live well, stay socially connected and feel secure - while also ensuring the industry remains sustainable and accessible for future generations."

Aveo CEO and RLC President, Tony Randello, said Ms Bruggeman's not-for-profit experience is a valuable contribution to the Board.

"Michelle's deep understanding of purpose-driven organisations and her strong leadership in the not-for-profit sector brings a fresh and important perspective to the RLC Board," Mr Randello said.

"Her experience will be instrumental as we continue to advocate for better outcomes for older Australians."

RLC Executive Director Daniel Gannon said the Board and its new leadership group continue to provide a strong foundation for the sector as Australia faces a dramatic demographic shift.

"The RLC remains the most powerful voice for the sector, championing practical, evidence-based initiatives that support older Australians to live healthier, more connected lives," Mr Gannon said.

"Our work has never been more important. As the nation's population ages and the housing shortage deepens, pressure is mounting on our health and aged care systems - and retirement living is a vital part of the solution."
