The Victorian Liberals and Nationals have today announced the proposed terms of reference for a Royal Commission into CFMEU misconduct.
Under Premier Jacinta Allan and Labor, at least $15 billion of taxpayer money - or more than $5,000 per household - has been lost to rorts on Victorian major projects, the vast majority of which has ended up in the hands of organised criminals and bikies.
To get to the bottom of the biggest corruption scandal in Victoria's history, the Victorian Liberals and Nationals will seek to establish a Royal Commission, the terms of reference of which will include:
· Investigating the true extent of the cost to Victorian taxpayers of misconduct on Victorian major projects.
· The flow of taxpayer funds to organised criminals, outlaw motorcycle gangs and political parties, arising from CFMEU misconduct on Victorian Government projects.
· Examining the Victorian Labor Government's culpability, including what Premier Jacinta Allan and Labor Ministers knew and when.
· Recommending measures to prevent similar misconduct occurring in the future, including by reviewing the effectiveness of current legislation and regulatory frameworks.
Despite Labor's claims of taking action on major project misconduct over the past two years, new data has confirmed 600 of 1050 complaints to the Fair Work Commission since mid-2024 relate to projects in Victoria.
Only a Wilson Liberal and Nationals Government will end Labor's rorts and waste by establishing a Royal Commission into CFMEU misconduct and a construction sector watchdog, Construction Enforcement Victoria.
Leader of the Opposition, Jess Wilson, said: "After days of deflection and denial by Premier Allan, Victorians still don't have the straight answers they deserve.
"Only a Royal Commission will get to the bottom of this shameful saga, identify how much taxpayer money has been rorted and ensure corruption on this scale is never allowed to occur again."
Shadow Attorney-General, James Newbury, said: "The person responsible for the largest corruption case in Victoria's history is not the person to clean it up.
"For a decade, major project corruption has flourished under Labor and every Victorian has paid the price. Only the Wilson Liberal and Nationals team has a plan to end the rorts and waste and clean up taxpayer-funded major projects."
