Liberals don't know who is looking after Tasmania's children

Tasmanian Labor

The Liberal Government has no idea who is looking after Tasmania's children, handballing a crucial question from Minister to Minister with no answers and no responsibility.

Shadow Police Minister Michelle O'Byrne said four of the state's most senior ministers have been unable to say whether there are any employees in the State Service who were identified in the Royal Commission into Historic Child Sexual Abuse or the National Redress Scheme.

"The Premier, the Attorney General, the Minister for Children and Youth and the Police Minister have each been asked in Estimates this week if they know the answer to this critical question," Ms O'Byrne said.

"Each has tried to fob it off, throwing this extremely important issue from Minister to Minister like a hot potato.

"But the upshot is that none of them knows the answer - the Premier Peter Gutwein took no responsibility, the Attorney General Elise Archer has no idea, the Minister for Children and Youth Sarah Courtney has no idea and today, we discovered that the Police Minister Jacquie Petrusma has no idea.

"Are our children being put at risk by this government's outrageous negligence?

"And if none of these Ministers is responsible, then who the hell is?"
