Liberals housing code politicking not fooling anyone
Guy Barnett's desperate attempts to distract from the Liberals' terrible housing record over the past 13 years aren't fooling anyone.
If the Government really does want to build more housing and make it more affordable, they need to fix the broken planning system, and address prohibitive network connection and headworks charges - not spend all their energy playing politics.
Labor has concerns about dropping improved waterproofing and mould measures contained in the new code. These are sensible and needed changes that will make a real difference to the standard of housing in Tasmania, and given our state's climate, are particularly important.
If the Minister really doesn't want to improve water-proofing and mould standards in new builds in Tasmania, he can delay the implementation of the code without legislation just like NSW. Yes, ironically, Minister Barnett already has the power to do vary or pause NCC 20254 and this Legislation is actually "red tape" wasting Parliament's time.
When the Liberals came to power, they promised a single, statewide planning scheme. After 13 years of Liberal waste their approach hasn't worked, but instead of fixing it they've chosen to play politics instead.
