Liberals' lip-service offensive to veterans

Tasmanian Labor

The lip-service paid today by Jeremy Rockliff and Guy Barnett to the RSL and the Vietnam Veterans' Association about their concerns over plans for a Macquarie Point AFL stadium was unconvincing at best, and offensive at worst.

Tasmanian Labor strongly supports both groups in their opposition to Jeremy Rockliff's stadium at Macquarie Point.

How can we take the Premier's offer of further consultation with veterans seriously when he's already made the same promise and failed to do it?

How can Minister Barnett claim to support our veterans and support the stadium at the same time, knowing exactly how the veteran community feels about it?

The treatment of our veterans throughout process has been nothing short of disrespectful.

Our veterans, past and present, deserve to be respected and listened to.

This Liberal Government has again shown its priorities are completely wrong by putting the demands of the AFL ahead of the respectful wishes of our veteran community.

Shadow Minister for Veteran Affairs
