Yale scholar takes a seat on Venice Film Festival jury
Francesco Casetti began attending the Venice International Film Festival when he was a college student at the Catholic University of Milan. He slept in small hotels, stood in line to attend screenings, and discussed films late into the night with friends.
This year, Casetti, the Sterling Professor of Humanities and Film and Media Studies in Yale's Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS), returned to the festival - this time as a juror.
The festival, now in its 83rd year, was held Sept. 2-12 on the island of Lido in Venice. The actress and filmmaker Maggie Gyllenhaal served as jury president for the main competition; Casetti is the first scholar without a professional industry background to serve on the main jury.
