They haven't earned the right to be trusted - and their own record proves it.
Jeff Kennett and the Liberals spent the 1990s ripping the guts out of public services.
Hospitals. Schools. Communities. Nothing was safe from their cuts. And Mildura paid the price.
In 1998, they took Mildura Base Hospital out of public hands and handed it over to the private sector - to be run at a profit.
They chose shareholders over patients. They chose ideology over the people of Mildura.
Then in 2013, the former Liberal Government had a chance to make it right - a chance to return Mildura Base Hospital to the public. Once again, they put profits before people.
They walked away.
Labor returned the hospital to the people of Mildura.
We did what the Liberals refused to do. We invested in your community, not the bottom line of a private operator.
When they last had the chance they went to war with paramedics, they planned to scrap nurse-to-patient ratios, and now they've promised $40 billion in cuts.
After everything they have done to public healthcare in this state - after selling off your hospital, after refusing to take it back, after attacking the very workers who keep it running - why would anyone in Mildura believe a single word they say now?
Same Liberals. Same cuts. Same contempt for regional Victoria.
