Libraries join in on Christmas fun

Libraries across our region are getting into the festive spirit as part of the City of Greater Geelong's Christmas in Geelong program.

The City is delivering fun events and activities that will appeal to community members of different ages at convenient locations across our region, thanks to the Geelong Regional Library Corporation:

Santaletters

Post a letter to Santa Claus in our special mailboxes from Saturday 12 November at the Geelong Library & Heritage Centre (The Dome), Waurn Ponds Library, Leopold Library and Corio Library. By filling in a Santa Letter request form, children can receive a letter or email reply from Mr Claus himself! Santa mailboxes will also be found at The Carousel and Wurriki Nyal, the City's new civic precinct at 137 Mercer Street, Geelong.

2022 GiantSelfie Trail

Strike a pose and capture a cute Christmas selfie at one or all of our 26 locations across the region from Saturday 12 November, including six at libraries. You can jump into a snow globe, surf with Santa, have a kiss under the mistletoe and more. Make sure to get snapping at the Geelong Library & Heritage Centre (Bauble Bliss, Portal to the North Pole and Christmas Balloons), Belmont Library (Milk for Santa), Corio Library (Choo Choo Train), Geelong West Library (Pat Rudolph), Lara Library (Snowy Snow Globe) and Ocean Grove Library (Peeking Presents).

GrannyLee Music and Storytelling

Much loved local children's entertainer Granny Lee is set to delight pre-school and primary-aged children with Christmas stories, singalongs and activities. The free Saturday events will run at Leopold Library on 19 November at 10.30am, Waurn Ponds Library on 26 November at 10.30am, Geelong Library & Heritage Centre (The Dome) on 10 December at 10.30am and Corio Library on 17 December at 10.30am. Spaces are limited, so book now to avoid disappointment.

Mayor Trent Sullivan, member of the Geelong Regional Library Corporation Board

Our region is fortunate to have so many wonderful libraries that make a difference in the community.

Libraries play a vital role in engaging the community, encouraging connection and fostering a love of learning.

Council is thrilled that we could join forces with the Geelong Regional Library Corporation to help deliver some Christmas fun and joyful experiences after a difficult few years.

Chair of the Geelong Regional Library Corporation Board, Councillor Ron Nelson

Library teams are excited to be hosting Granny Lee and her ukulele, as well as Santa mailboxes and clever and creative selfie artwork.

We look forward to seeing community members from all over Geelong joining in on the festive fun at the library.

There are festive activities and events for all ages in the Christmas in Geelong program, such as the nightly Floating Christmas Tree sound and light shows, Santa Pet Photos, School Christmas Trees and Christmas Day Morning Yoga.
