East Gippsland Libraries will celebrate the magic of reading during Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book Week from 22-28 August, inviting the community to experience a Symphony of Stories through a week of fun, creativity and imagination.
East Gippsland libraries in Bairnsdale, Lakes Entrance, Mallacoota, Omeo, Orbost and Paynesville will host a range of activities for children, families, schools and the wider community, encouraging people of all ages to discover the joy of books.
This year's Book Week theme, Symphony of Stories, celebrates a colourful collection of characters bursting out of a book, representing their different stories with weird and wonderful instruments.
Take part in our "Draw a Picture or Write a Story" competition. This year's theme is, "When I opened a book, music came out..."
Throughout the week, all East Gippsland Libraries will host special Book Week Storytime sessions featuring themed stories, creative craft activities and a character hunt. Families are also invited to dress up as their favourite book characters for the Book Week Costume Parade at Bairnsdale Library on Saturday 29 August, commencing at 10.00 am. Prizes will be awarded to the best dressed.
East Gippsland Shire Council Mayor Cr Jodie Ashworth said Book Week is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate reading and the important role libraries play in bringing communities together.
"Book Week is always a highlight on our library calendar. It's a chance for families to share the joy of reading, spark children's imaginations and create lasting memories together," Cr Ashworth said.
"Our libraries are more than places to borrow books; they're welcoming community spaces where people of all ages can learn, connect and explore new ideas."
Library staff are looking forward to welcoming families, schools and community members to celebrate stories through reading, creativity and shared experiences.
While Book Week is a special annual celebration, East Gippsland Libraries offer programs, events and activities throughout the year, alongside thousands of books, eBooks and digital resources for people of all ages.
