Lifeguard on watch on tower

Mayor Mark Honey has urged beach-goers to heed COVID safety measures during the coming school holidays and beyond.

Clr. Honey said Council lifeguards are there to ensure water safety.

"I really want our residents to enjoy our beaches these holidays given everything we're going through, but I also remind everyone the safety measures that need to be followed to keep everyone safe. This means people observing the Public Health Orders and in particular, those around maximum group size and the wearing of masks."

Our lifeguards will begin their patrol season at Surf Beach from Monday 20 September, where they will be on duty Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 5.30pm.

Volunteer surf lifesavers will be on patrol on weekends and public holidays at Surf Beach, as well as Jones Beach and Werri Beach.

Supervising Lifeguard Craig Bowley said his team would once again be focussing on preventative and proactive lifeguarding this patrol season," Mr Bowley said.

"We will use our public address system to assist beachgoers generally and we ask people to please cooperate to ensure a safe beach experience this summer."

Clr. Honey said if beach users failed to follow the directions of Council lifeguards, NSW Police would be alerted.
